Pentax K200D Digital camera features

  High quality image reproduction

The K200D combines a large, high-performance 23.5mm x 15.7mm CCD image sensor with the sophisticated PRIME (PENTAX Real IMage Engine) as its imaging engine. With its approximately 10.2 effective megapixel resolution, the K200D produces beautiful, fine-detailed images with subtle gradations and texture descriptions. The K200D also features a Custom Image function which lets the user select one of six finishing touches to reflect his or her creative intentions with great ease with the ability to further fine tune them.

PENTAX-original SR (Shake Reduction) mechanism

The PENTAX-developed SR (Shake Reduction) mechanism effectively reduces camera shake for sharp, blur-free images even under demanding shooting conditions and is compatible with almost all existing PENTAX interchangeable lenses.* . It offers an outstanding compensation effect, equivalent to approximately 2.5 to 4 shutter-speed steps.
*Lenses compatible with this mechanism are: the PENTAX K-, KA-, KAF- and KAF2-mount lenses, screw-mount lenses (with an adapter); and 645- and 67-system lenses (with an adapter). Some functions may not be applicable with certain lenses.

Comprehensive Dust Removal system

The K200D features the user-friendly Dust Removal (DR) system to prevent dust from sticking to the surface of the CCD image sensor (or low-pass filter). This DR system offers a new Dust Alert function, which allows the user to check for dust on the image sensor in advance, helping to reduce the need for time-consuming retouching later on.

Dust-proof, water-resistant construction

The K200D boasts an extremely reliable dust-proof, water-resistant construction, with special seals applied to 60 different parts of the camera body, including the shutter release button and switches/levers/dials. This dependable body makes it possible to use the K200D in the rain or dusty locations without worries.

Auto sensitivity control up to ISO 1600

The auto sensitivity control function automatically sets the optimum sensitivity up to ISO 1600, based on such data as the subject’s brightness level and the lens’ focal length. This function allows the user to use faster shutter speeds in poor lighting situations, helping to effectively reduce camera shake and prevent blurred images. For specialized applications, the sensitivity can be set manually from ISO 100 to ISO 1600 in increments of 1, 1/2 or 1/3 EV using custom functions.

High-precision 11-point wide-frame AF

The K200D’s advanced SAFOX VIII autofocus system features 11 sensor points (with nine cross-type sensors positioned in the middle) to automatically focus on the subject with utmost precision, regardless of where they are in the frame. Choice of 16-segment multi-pattern metering, center-weighted metering and spot metering accommodates various photographic applications.

Bright, clear viewfinder

Combining a lightweight penta-mirror prism with PENTAX-original finder optics and the acclaimed Natural-Bright-Matte II focusing screen, the K200D’s viewfinder delivers a large, bright image with an approximately 96-percent field of view and an approximately 0.85-times magnification.

Versatile Auto Picture mode

The PENTAX-developed Auto Picture mode automatically sets the most appropriate shooting mode (such as Portrait, Landscape and Macro) for a given subject or situation. The K200D not only sets an aperture and a shutter speed, but also adjusts white-balance, saturation, contrast and sharpness levels, allowing the photographer to concentrate on image composition and shutter opportunity.

Large 2.7-inch wide-view LCD monitor

The large 2.7-inch colour LCD monitor allows you to zoom in on the image up to 20X. The LCD’s wide-view design allows the photographer to check the monitor image from approximately 160 degrees both vertically and horizontally.

Pentax K200D Digital camera user reviews

"Like Sony does in the A200 and Olympus does in the E420, Pentax includes wireless flash control in the K200D. Nikon reserves that feature for its D80 and pricier models, while Canon forces you to buy its 580EX flash or the dedicated wireless controller if you want wireless flash control. Granted, the Canon system offers a higher level of control than the Sony, Olympus, or Pentax entry-level versions, but it's nice to have some wireless flash functionality at the entry-level. The K200D lets you use the built-in flash to trigger either the AF540FGZ or AF360FGZ flash units. You can't group flashes or set ratios between flashes, but you can control the flash output with the camera's flash-compensation setting, which is conveniently changed in the flash setting part of the Fn menu. Also, you can set the camera to use the built-in flash along with one or multiple wireless flashes, or you can set the built-in flash to just control the wireless flashes and not fire when the picture is taken. In case you're wondering, the wireless flash works with Pentax's P-TTL flash metering.

"Pentax K200D Digital camera is Pentax's second "entry level" digital SLR camera, following their very successful K100d, and Pentax K200D Digital camera is entering a very crowded marketplace. In fact, many people who wish to graduate from "point and shoot" cameras will never even get as far as the K200d, such is the dominance of other models by Canon, Nikon and Sony. However, by ignoring this excellent camera, they are missing out on a trick. "

"Pentax K200D digital camera is the Rodney Dangerfield of camera companies—they just don’t get any respect. The fact they operate on a shoestring budget, have recently been taken over by lens-maker Hoya and have as much clout with your local mega-retailer as I do may have something to do with Pentax K200D digital camera."
